Changelog

Every version, and what changed.

The app tells you when there's a new one.

0.4.0
Latest

Now anyone can listen in a web browser, on your network or anywhere on the internet.

  • Let browsers listen: phones and laptops on the same Wi-Fi open a web address, or scan the QR code, and press play. No app needed. About a second behind live.
  • Go live on the internet: anyone with your link can listen, from anywhere. The link belongs to your computer and stays the same, so you can share it once.
  • See how many people are listening, in the app, while you send.
  • One or the other: switching one on switches the other off.
  • The MP3 encoder (LAME, LGPL) comes as its own file inside the app. Its source is published with every release.
0.3.0

A fresh look, and a clearer picture of what your sound is doing.

  • New design: a dark, focused window with the new lanaudio mark. Orange marks the one thing that's live or the next thing to press.
  • Left and right meters with peak markers, on a proper −60 to 0 dB scale, for both sending and listening.
  • See your connection: while listening, lanaudio shows the delay, dropped packets, and whether you're on Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
  • ON AIR / LISTENING at the top of the window, so you can tell at a glance.
  • New app icon.
0.2.0

lanaudio now runs on Windows and Linux too, and every computer can send to and listen to every other.

  • Windows: send All sound on this computer with no setup, or pick any input. Listening plays through your speakers, and OBS picks it up with Application Audio Capture. For Zoom, Teams or a DAW, install the free VB-CABLE and lanaudio uses it automatically.
  • Linux: one click makes the lanaudio audio device through PipeWire or PulseAudio, with no password and no driver. Comes as an AppImage and a .deb.
  • Mac: the same as before, and now talks to Windows and Linux computers.
  • Update notices now work the same on every platform.
0.1.0

The first version of lanaudio: send your computer's sound to any number of computers on your network.

  • Send the sound from Logic, Ableton or your whole Mac. Others see it by name, so there are no IP addresses to type.
  • Listen with one click. The sound arrives on an input called lanaudio that OBS, Zoom or your DAW can use.
  • One-time setup adds the lanaudio audio device. You don't need BlackHole or Homebrew.
  • Studio quality (24-bit, uncompressed), with a delay that adjusts itself to your network.
  • Keeps the computer awake while sending or listening, so Wi-Fi doesn't drop.
  • The app tells you when a new version is out.
